Dare To Dream Big
There are many of us who believe that we can’t turn our love for video games into a career.
We’re told that it’s childish, you can’t make money doing that, to be realistic. I’m here to tell you that you can turn your love of video games into something more, into a living. I want to share my short experience with Doc Mac and the Galloping Ghost Arcade.
I’ve had the privilege of working with and around video games my whole life. When I say video games are my life, I mean it. I’ve also been lucky enough to meet many people who I’ve been able to learn from over the years. Because of my experiences, I am confident that with the right mindset anyone can turn their passion for video games into a career. I went to Chicago on business and a friend over at the House of M recommended I check out the Galloping Ghost Arcade. I went to see what all the hype was about and I was more than impressed.
There a sea of arcade cabinets from old school to brand new game I never even knew existed! It’s an understatement to say it was amazing. And the best part is their expanding! After seeing the arcade I had to have an interview with the owner. I wanted to know more about him and his success.
I want to help others attain their dreams. I’m on a mission to prove that someone’s love for video games can turn into a business. I’m going to go all over and talk to people who chase and are achieving their dreams. You don’t have to be a game developer in the game industry, but it does take passion.
The way you make a living doesn’t have feel like work! You can love what you do, but it takes effort to make your dreams come true. You have to start investing in yourself, there are plenty of tools and resources out there to make it happen.
Doc Mac, On Opening An Arcade
Just like Doc Mack I’ve had the privilege of meeting and talking to people like Ed Boon, Seth Killian, Tom Lee and many other awesome talented people. One of my biggest dreams is to learn from people who are successful and pass that knowledge on so that other people can achieve their goals.
Many gamers have convinced ourselves that making a living with video games is an immature goal. Video games are a way of life for many of us now, and there is nothing wrong with wanting a career in the world of video games. I can’t speak for others, but I refuse to live a life where I work a job that doesn’t serve me just to pay bills. I don’t buy into the idea that was born just to work and pay bills. If there’s one thing that video games have taught me it’s that life is an adventure, and we sometimes have to take those scary steps into the dark unknown. But you don’t have to do it alone.
