Intro To Meditation
My first introduction to meditating was from a YouTube channel called Spirit Science. Spirit Science is a YouTube channel that combines the worlds of spirituality and science. I love of science and spirituality So this channel was a thought expanding experience. At the time, I was very much into fitness and I wanted to do anything that would give me an edge. Apparently, meditation could help in many areas of my health. So I decided to give it a try.
Fast forward to now and the benefits have been plentiful. On the first benefits, I noticed was my attention span and level of focus. I was able to hone in on one train of thought, and think deeper about it than I was able to before. Another benefit was my depression began to vanish. Other than Exercise and Diet, Meditation was the only other variable, and I believe meditating played a huge part in my depression.
Dealing with Depression
For most of my life, I had suffered from depression and Suicidal thoughts. I often questioned my existence and found it a struggle to find a reason to live. My perception of the world was very dark and I’m not very proud to admit it. For the first time in my life, I forced myself to face the dark thoughts that circulated my mind. After months of practice, I started to notice that my outlook on life had changed and as a result, my depression began to evaporate. It wasn’t solely meditation, but it did enable me to make huge progress in many areas of my health.
I’ve since started utilizing meditation for many other areas of my life. I continue to discover new benefits to meditation. That idea prompted me to ask if meditation could help me improve at fighting games. After watching Evo 2017 top 8 for Street Fighter V I was curious to know what top-level players utilized meditation. That’s when I came across an article from Shoryuken explaining that players like Tokido and Daigo meditate. In the article, they reference The Daily Mediation a website dedicated to meditation and sharing the benefits.
Reaching Out To Paul Harrison
After reading the article I had to reach out to the author and speak with him. Paul Harrison was kind enough to sit down and share his expertise with me. He’s a meditation expert AND a fellow member of the Fighting Game Community (FGC). Harrison shares his story of how he got into meditation, the benefits of meditation, and the benefits specifically for competitive players.
Meditation is a topic I’m very passionate about, and I want to help introduce its benefits to the FGC. Meditating has helped with my concentration, depression, anxiety, health issues, and much more. I owe much of my success to my dedication of meditation. There are many members of the FGC that can benefit from meditation in a variety of ways. On top of that, the disciple of meditation and help their ability to play!
